Old Montreal Engagement Session // Laurie + Nicolas
On the steps of Montreal’s Notre-Dame Basilica, I first met Laurie & Nicolas, a young couple in love with such passion for living. From Laurie’s laughter to Nicolas’ smooth dance steps and the way he looked at her, I couldn’t help fall in love with this couple. Their’s is a true love story as touching as a Nicolas Sparks novel.
For much of their two year romance Laurie, a competitive figure skater, has battled stage four cancer. Her courage and determination Nicolas says, is what inspired him to plan an epic marriage proposal – one that she would never forget. For eight months Nicolas dedicated himself to learn figure skating and perform a special routine just for her. Following his public performance and on bended knee, Nicolas proposed marriage – cue the tears, how romantic is that!
It was such a blessing to meet this sweet couple & explore old Montreal, along with my good friends, photographers Julie Dessureault, Barbara Ann & Cassie Kos. The icing on the cake – enjoying a cold beer and a hockey game at pub as we chatted about their plans for a spring wedding next year. Love is a moment that lasts forever. There are just no words to describe how much I love photographing love stories like theirs.

Natasha & Shane’s Sydney Nova Scotia Wedding
Natasha & Shane’s wedding took place on a gorgeous day in June at St. Margurite Bourgeoys Parish (formerly St. Jospeh’s) in Sydney. From the moment I walked in the door the morning of her wedding, I could hear Natasha’s contagious laughter mixed with her bridesmaid’s and I couldn’t help laugh myself. Good friends and loving family made their day more fun that I could have imagined. Following their ceremony, portraits were taken at Wentworth Park and the Sydney boardwalk. Celebrations were held at Center 200’s main concourse, transformed by Robert Maclean of Celebrations and Event Planning. Guests enjoyed dinner catered by Center 200 and wedding cake pops by Cocoa Pod followed by epic dance offs, music supplied by DJ Bobby Cooper. At 1 am confetti cannons fired to Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody preparing guests for Cape Breton’s unofficial Rankin Family anthem and they were All Fired Up, as Jimmy sang. Not to let the night slip away without a an epic send off, the couple ran through the Joseph Family Archway and sprayed bottles of champaign in the parking lot to the amazement of casino patrons. Congratulations Natasha & Shane and thank you for a sharing your fantastic day with me! A wedding like this deserves an annual Cape Breton kitchen party don’t you think?

Allie & Andrew… what an amazing love story you two share! I am truly thankful that you asked me to photograph your beautiful wedding. Blessed with incredible families and friends, watching you in your wedding video, I can’t help but wish we could do it all over again! There were so many emotional moments… tears, laughter and joy – it was incredibly hard narrowing them down to tell the story of your day. I hope someday, as your children look through your album, they can see and feel all the love they were born from.
Hugs to you both!

Holly & Chris // Port Hawkesbury Wedding Photographer
I am so excited to share Holly & Chris wedding! Everyone knows I’m a helpless romantic and the movie, The Notebook, is my inspiration. It means so much to me to capture images you can feel, that tell the story of couple’s wedding day. To me a wedding album is a couple’s legacy to pass on, much like the Notebook Noah read to his sweetheart Allie in the movie.
Like the character Allie, Holly’s grandfather Michael also suffers from dementia. Married 55 years ago to his sweetheart Joan, Holly told me how important it was for her to visit him at the nursing home on her wedding day. Little did I know, this would become one of the most moving experiences of my life! Seeing Holly in her dress, Michael looked at Joan and a lifetime of wonderful memories came flooding back. It was a wonderful visit as he shared stories of his wedding day with the happy couple.
From the dress…to the details…to the wonderful families & friends who shared their day this was certainly a wedding to remember!

Jennifer & Kyle // Halifax Wedding Photographer
I can’t believe it’s a new year already! It feels like only yesterday Jennifer shared with me her love story and plans for a fairy tail wedding. From the dress to the shoes – to prince charming waiting for his princess – all agreed she looked just a princess from books her parents read to her as a little girl.
Jennifer and Kyle, I am so happy for you both. May the love you share in tears and laughter, fill your home and make every day a new adventure. Have fun reliving your day!
Warm hugs,
Michelle
